LUCY PORTER will bring her stand-up routine back to Wales this week – and it seems she’s looking for love.
Croydon-born Porter is now on her sixth solo show.
Love In was meant to be an intellectual examination of the concept of love, incorporating theories on the subject from Greek scholars and famous psychoanalysts – but it didn’t quite turn out that way.
“I thought the show would encompass all kinds of love; romantic, familial, love of pets and books and songs, but it turned out I had so many tales of failed dates in my life that it took over the whole show,” says Porter. “Basically, it’s about what a nonsense the concept of The One is.
“But it’s also about how alluring an idea it is, because how much of my life have I wasted chasing it?
“I was a late starter emotionally, I just liked books and indie music until I was 18.
“I went to an all-girls school so it wasn’t until I hit university that I thought ‘boys are brilliant’ and I suppose I’ve been looking for The One ever since.”
Porter, who reveals her first kiss at the age of 16 was with a Mormon, admits she still hasn’t found The One.
“I’m quite attracted to Adrian Chiles at the moment,” she says of The One Show presenter.
Lucy Porter’s Love In is at the Sherman Theatre, Cardiff, tomorrow. Tickets are available from the box office on 029 2064 6900
