Bafta was ‘best night of my life’ for Corden

Gavin and Stacey creators James Corden and Ruth Jones

GAVIN AND STACEY actor James Corden described his television Bafta success as the best night of his life, as he attended a London film premiere.

Describing his win, James said: “It felt incredible.

“It’s the best night I’ve ever had in my life.”

He was attending the premiere of What Happens In Vegas, which stars Ashton Kutcher and Cameron Diaz.

The film centres around two strangers who awake in Las Vegas to find that they have wed after a night of debauchery.

Asked what he had done when he was drunk, James said: “Far too many things.”

Gesturing at a group of women calling towards the red carpet from a nearby pub he joked: “All of them hopefully.”

BBC3 sitcom Gavin and Stacey, about an Essex boy who falls in love with a girl from Barry, beat The Apprentice and Strictly Come Dancing to win the only Bafta television award chosen by viewers – the Audience Award for programme of the year.

James, who plays Smithy in the series which he co-wrote with Cardiff’s Ruth Jones, also picked up the best comedy performance prize at the London Palladium awards ceremony on Sunday.
