Cricket: Tough start for Glamorgan

GLAMORGAN experienced a testing morning after winning the toss and deciding to bat in the LV county championship division two clash against Gloucestershire at Bristol.

After play started at 11.30am because of a damp pitch, the Gloucestershire opening bowling pair of Jon Lewis and Steve Kirby severely challenged the Dragons top order with some quality swing bowling and picked up a wicket each in the opening session.

Lewis dismissed Gareth Rees for two when he nicked a ball behind Stephen Snell in the fifth over, while Matthew Wood only managed four in 38 balls before he succumbed to his old Yorkshire colleague Steve Kirby with Grant Hodnett taking the catch at gully.

Captain David Hemp and Mike Powell then guided the Welsh county through to 47 for two at lunch of 21 overs.

The Welsh county have named the same side that drew against Middlesex last week with James Harris taking up 12th man duties.
