Rugby League: Cash incentive for Leeds players

RUGBY LEAGUE: Leeds players will have the added incentive of a cash windfall in tomorrow’s Carnegie World Club Challenge.

Australian champions Melbourne Storm are prevented by salary-cap rules from giving more than half their prize money to their players and will use winnings to offset the cost of their trip.

Leeds, on the other hand, will follow the principle used in the Super League Grand Final and, if successful at Elland Road, will hand over the entire £50,000 winnings to Brian McClennan’s squad, netting them up to £3,000 a man.

“We will give all the prize money to the players,” said Rhinos chief executive Gary Hetherington.
