Athletics: World backing for Williamson

ATHLETICS: UK Athletics performance director Dave Collins is confident Simeon Williamson will perform well in next weekend’s world indoor championships.

The 22-year-old will hope to sharpen his form after an unimpressive display at an international in Clermont Ferrand.

Williamson’s celebrations at being chosen to partner Dwain Chambers over 60m in Valencia were stifled when just hours later he could finish only fifth in France.

The European U23s 100m gold medallist was never in the hunt as St Kitts sprinter Kim Collins scored a confidence-booster before the world championship start in Spain on March 7.
