UK ATHLETICS today announced the second wave of selections for the IAAF World Indoor Championships due to take place in Valencia on March 7-9.
Cardiff’s Debo Ademuweyo joins the 4x400m squad alongside Richard Buck, Steve Green, Rob Tobin, Nick Leavey and, subject to fitness, Dale Garland.
The Welsh athlete is a former training partner of Christian Malcolm. He is now under the guidance of coaching guru Malcolm Arnold, who assisted Colin Jackson to world-class glory.
Ademuweyo said: “UKA called me when I was at work. I had a customer in front of me so I had to try and compose myself but I have been jumping up and down and it hasn’t really sunk in yet to be honest. I’ve competed for Great Britain at junior level but this is my first senior vest. I’m moving up to the big boys now so all the hard work is paying off.
“My training doesn’t change. I’ll be keeping my head down, training hard and tapering down,” added the runner, who works for Bath’s Wilson Street branch of Lloyds TSB.
“This is my first full season of only doing the 400m. I was originally doing 100m and 200m and training alongside Christian Malcolm.”
