R League: Title send off for Smith

GREAT BRITAIN internationals Gareth Ellis and Keith Senior led the tributes to coach Tony Smith after he ended his Leeds career on a high with victory in the Super League grand final.

The 40-year-old delivered the perfect leaving gift by steering the Rhinos to a brilliant 33-6 victory over St Helens, including Welsh international Keiron Cunningham, who were denied what would have been a unique second successive cleansweep of domestic trophies.

Smith goes full-time with Great Britain this week. This was Leeds’ second title in four years since he took over, after previously going 32 years without one.
