Rugby League: Celtic coach signs new deal

CELTIC Crusaders’ head coach John Dixon has signed a new contract that will keep him at the Welsh rugby league club for a further two years.

Dixon joined the Crusaders for their inaugural season in 2006.

Prior to that, he had spent 10 years on the coaching staff at top Australian National Rugby League club, the Brisbane Broncos.

The Crusaders are currently chasing promotion into the Co-operative National League One and Dixon’s new contract will keep him at the Brewery Field until the end of 2009, by which time the ambitious club could have played their first season in the Super League.

“I came here to help the Crusaders and to Wales because of the opportunity to be part of something special,” said Dixon.

“As a club we have made enormous progress and I know what has been put in place will help reap richer rewards in the future.”

The Crusaders are second in NL2 with a game in hand and are preparing for tomorrow’s clash against league leaders Featherstone Rovers, a game and can be seen live on Sky Sports (7.35pm).
