R League: Boothroyd rejoins Batley

CELTIC Crusaders’ hooker Andy Boothroyd is returning to his former club Batley Bulldogs on a loan until the end of the season.

Boothroyd, who has scored one try in 12 appearances in 2007, has been kept out of the Crusaders side for much of the season by former Harlequins star Neil Budworth and believes that the move back to Batley will be of benefit to him.

“I’ve been a bit disappointed not to have played more for the Crusaders,” said Boothroyd.

“Batley came in with a good offer and I think I can get more of a regular place in the side there.

“But I’m only up there on loan so I could be called back to Wales at any time.

“I’ve learned a lot from the Crusaders and I hope to take that experience with me to Yorkshire.”

Crusaders’ coach John Dixon said: “Andy will be a loss for us.

“He’s worked really hard in his time with us, but as a coach I can understand his need to play footy and to play on a regular basis.

“He leaves here on really good terms.

“We wish him well at Batley and will welcome him back if the need arises.”
