R League: Tigers banish Demons

TORFAEN Tigers helped their cause for a home draw in the end of season play-offs after beating Cardiff Demons 29-16 at St Peter’s RFC last night.

The visitors were in control for much of the first half and took a 10th minute lead when Gareth Davies touched down, Gareth-John Jenkins converting.

A converted Mike Vann try gave the Tigers a 12-0 advantage, before Davies went over for his second try on 25 minutes.

But the Demons struck back after Gareth Jones fed Jamie Iles to go over and make the score 4-16 at the interval.

Jenkins claimed a fourth Tigers score and goaled his own try, but Jones then scored and converted the Demons’ second on the hour.

A flurry of points in the last quarter produced a Christopher Baldwin try, plus a Darryl Carter conversion and dropped-goal for the Tigers, while James Thatcher struck back again for Demons with Jones converting. .
