R League: Players see red in tough local derby

TORFAEN Tigers just about deserved to beat Blackwood Bulldogs 30-24 in a blood and thunder Gwent derby at the Memorial Ground.

A double sending off finally drew a line under the fighting, and allowed a game of rugby to take place.

Further disciplinary action saw a player from either side sin-binned, which brought the best out of the Tigers who went into a 12-8 lead.

But Blackwood battled back and the game was nicely poised at 18-18.

But it was the Tigers who showed the have that extra edge with Jason Hill leading by example and grabbing the try which edged the Tigers once again ahead of their local rivals.

Chris Baldwin the scored the points that put the game out of reach of the Bulldogs.

In the Conference’s other match, Neath Port Talbot Steelers picked up their second win in as many weeks with a 36-24 win over West Wales Sharks.
