R League: Demons fightback falls short as Bulls rally

Bridgend Blue Bulls 32-20 Cardiff Demons

CARDIFF Demons had never beaten Bridgend Blue Bulls, and with a Bulls side containing current Celtic Crusaders’ star Dean Fitzgerald, along with four former Crusaders’ players, they didn’t stand much of a chance of winning this one.

But they gave it a good shot and came out of the encounter with their heads held high.

Following an even first 10 minutes, Gareth David gave Bridgend a 4-0 lead after finishing off a fine passing move by grounding in the corner.

It was 10-0 straight from kick-off. And 20 minutes later the Bulls had added a further 10 points to lead 20-4.

The Demons staged a stirring fightback to score 10 points of their own to reduce the deficit to six points.

But further tries from Paul Morgan and Matthew Owen sealed the Bulls’ victory.
