Woodard’s brace of tries bolsters Bulls

CHAMPIONS Bridgend Blue Bulls withstood a huge scare before continuing their unbeaten start to the Welsh Conference Premier season with a 32-22 win over Blackwood Bulldogs.

The visitors led 10-0 until just before the break and went ahead again early in the second half.

But two quick tries from Lenny Woodard swung things Bridgend’s way, although it needed a fine solo score from Griff Davies to seal the victory.

Newport Titans also have a perfect record after their 41-10 win in the Gwent derby with Torfaen Tigers.

Matt Penny grabbed two of the Titans’ seven tries.

Cardiff Demons were stunned as they let slip a 30-6 interval lead to go down 33-32 at West Wales Sharks.

Rhodri Thomas scored twice as the Demons ran in six first-half tries, but could only muster a penalty from Gareth Davies after the break.

And the Sharks roared back to level at 32-32 before Jonathon Griffiths snapped a late drop-goal to complete the comeback.

And in the day’s other match, Valley Cougars went down 26-14 to previously winless Neath-Port Talbot Steelers.
