LEWIS Hamilton has played down suggestions he is on course to become a rookie Formula One world champion.
Hamilton won his maiden grand prix in Canada last Sunday to take an eight-point lead in the drivers’ championship over McLaren team-mate and defending world champion Fernando Alonso.
In Indianapolis, where he will today begin practice for Sunday’s United States Grand Prix, the 22-year-old racing phenomenon insisted he was ignoring all talk of world titles.
“To be honest I try not to focus on that,” Hamilton said. “I came into the season with a very open mind and realistic of the fact that I am a rookie and have a lot to learn.
