FERNANDO ALONSO is looking to win the world championship in style with a victory in today's Brazilian Grand Prix at Interlagos.

The Renault driver will rewrite the record books if he finishes in the top three by becoming the youngest world champion in Formula One history.

The 24-year-old gave himself the perfect platform to secure the crown by taking pole position in Sao Paulo as title rival Kimi Raikkonen made a rare error.

The McLaren driver is clinging on to his world championship dream by his fingertips but will start a race he needs to win from fifth place after a mistake early in his lap.

Alonso wants to mark his coronation as Formula One's new king with a victory after improvements to his Renault reeled in McLaren's recent performance advantage. Juan Pablo Montoya was the leading McLaren driver in second with Giancarlo Fisichella overcoming the handicap of being first on track to take third, emphasising Renault's improvement.
