Ice Hockey: Free-scoring Dragons crush Streatham

CARDIFF Dragons under-14s comfortably kept hold of their unbeaten tag this season in cruising to an 11-1 victory at Streatham.

The Dragons created plenty of chances before captain Josh Galea slotted home an unassisted goal on 4.58.

This seemed to knock the home side out of their stride as two quick unassisted strikes from Josh Haslam and Joseff Lawrence opened up a three-goal lead.

With a Dragons player in the box on a high stick call it gave Streatham an ideal opportunity to get into the game but the visitors broke clear scoring a shorthanded goal by Joseph Lawrence assisted by Giacomo Raffaelli. The Dragons continued to attack and scored a further two goals in the first period through Matthew Thomas and Kieran Latchford to open up a six-goal cushion at the end of the first period.

The second and final 20 minutes started with Streatham shocking the Dragons getting a goal back.

But this was to be their only score as the Dragons added five more goals as Haslam and Lawrence notched up three apiece with Ellis Price and Latchford also getting in on the act.

The Dragons’ next game will be the long haul to the Isle of Wight on February 16.

The Dragons under-12s had a good 3-2 win over Peterborough Phantoms.

Tom Parkinson and Ben Palmer gave the Dragons a two-goal buffer by the end of the first period.

Parkinson added his second in the third period before the Phantoms gave Cardiff something of a fright with a late two-goal salvo.
