Ice Hockey: Steelers add to Devils woe

CARDIFF DEVILS suffered a ninth successive Elite League ice hockey defeat last night, losing 5-1 against Sheffield Steelers at the Cardiff Bay rink.

It has been an awful run of form and luck for the Devils, who have been rocked by an injury crisis player-coach Gerad Adams describes as, “The worst I’ve ever known in hockey.”

Things will improve drastically for the Devils this week, though, with Adams and first-choice netminder Phil Osaer back from injury.

New signing Dion Darling, a 6ft 3ins defenceman who is a former NHL draft pick for Montreal Canadiens, also flies in on Wednesday.

All three will be in the Devils team for their next match, at home to Nottingham Panthers next Sunday (6pm).

Last night the Devils fell two behind in the first period and conceded three more in the final period before Matus Petricko grabbed a consolation goal to make it 5-1

On Saturday, the Devils lost 5-2 against Manchester Phoenix at the Silver Blades Ice Rink in Altrincham, with Petricko and Brad Voth scoring for Cardiff.
