VETERAN band members Selwyn Protheroe and John Trottman have both described the band’s win as an incredible achievement.

Selwyn , who is 80 and who joined the band in 1958 said: “To win the European title is an amazing achievement and one the members richly deserve.

“Although some of the instruments were damaged in transit they were playable and didn’t stop the boys from winning.”

John, who along with Selwyn is a non playing band member, said: “The band scored 99 out of a 100 for the test piece. I have never known a score like that before. It is an incredible achievement.

“The band members have played their hearts out to win the title and I am delighted for them.”
