Football: Victory slips from Neath’s grasp

Welsh Premiership

Neath 2-2 Caersws

AN error-littered Welsh Premiership end-of-season encounter cost both sides at Llandarcy Park.

All four goals came from sloppy defending and, unusually, they were all scored from tap-ins.

Matthew Rees opened the scoring for the visitors on the stoke of half-time, but Caersws levelled early in the second half through John Slater.

In what was a poor advert for the league, Neath’s Jarrod Price thought he had won the game when he latched on to a defensive error to put the home side 2-1 up.

Another defensive blunder let Caersws back into the game when Graham Evans popped up to peg his side level.

“I think it was a lack of desire from our point of view,” explained Neath manager Andy Dyer.

“Caersws were third from bottom and we should have won.

“You try and do well, but when there is no silverware or title to be won, then the level of performance can drop.

“Our final league game is against Bangor away on Saturday and that’s not going to be easy.

“But we will be looking for a good level of performance to put us in the right frame of mind for our West Wales Senior Cup final against Llanelli at Stebonheath next Tuesday night.

“We are defending the trophy and Llanelli are on a real high at the moment.”
