Youth football: Cilfynydd take cup in extra time blitz

CILFYNYDD Under 16s lifted the Taff Ely and Rhymney League Cup after defeating league leaders Llanbradach.

The first half saw Llanbradach create several chances but they were unable to break the deadlock due to some outstanding goalkeeping from Cil’s man of the match Ashley Upchurch.

Cilfynydd coach Vicki Brittain shuffled her team around at the interval, and it paid off immediately as influential midfielder Josh Logan opened the scoring with a curling shot.

This prompted Llanbradach to throw everything at Cil and they equalised soon after with a back post header.

With the scores tied at 1-1 extra-time was looming until Cil captain Rikki Webb rose above the defence to power a header into the Llanbradach net.

The final minutes were very tense but the Cil defence, marshalled by sweeper Sam Harris, held firm to win the cup.
