Football: Relegation fears for Athletic after away tie defeat

Bettws 5
Treharris Athletic 1

NORTH SITE, Bettws was the venue for Treharris Athletic last Saturday, for this McWirter Welsh League fixture, hosted by League Champions Bettws.

Treharris were in the game for 55 minutes but fell away badly against the strong looking champions.

Hosts Bettws took a 13th minute lead with a well executed goal, Paul Evans heading home with power from Syds after all the spade work had been done for him by Robbie Huggleston on the left wing.

Treharris came back when Daniel Howe shot inches over the home crossbar, after a good lay off from Ian Batten.

Two minutes into the second half Treharris should have equalised. Gary Bouse missing a sitter from 6yrds, after scuffing his shot wide of the home upright.

With 54 minutes gone Treharris were on level terms, when Ian Batten caused a few problems in Bettws defence, allowing Craig Howells the simple task of heading home.

Two minutes later Treharris fell behind again with Daniel Howe losing the ball in mid-field, with Christian Burge crashing the ball high into the Treharris net.

On the hour Bettws made it 3-1, Darren Robinson heading home unmarked from a Paul Jones left wing corner.

Robbie Huggleston made it 4-1 five minutes later with a 15-yard drive after the Treharris defence opened up for him.

Treharris were now under the cosh, with Steve Bouse being kept very busy with some good saves, along with it and Kevin Bounds heading off his own line.

Bettws were not finished yet, when goal No.5 came on 83 minutes from sub Anthony Rawlings, firing past Steve Bouse after robbing Treharris full back John Williams of the ball, sending Bettws into Division One, only needing one point from three games.

Treharris finish off the season with three games and looking for points to avoid relegation.
