Rugby: Big home crowd wowed by unanswered double-try win

Ynysowen 21 Llanrumney 0

A TRY in each half saw Ynysowen run out deserved winners in this Division Six Central match in front of a large crowd at the Grove Field.

From a scrum, number eight Gethin King picked up, broke the first tackle and drove over to score with Wathen converting.

Ynysowen then started to play some good rugby and retained possession through a number of phases, forcing the Cardiff side to concede a penalty, which was kicked by Wathen.

The visitors came back strongly and only a combination of good tackling and poor handling kept them from scoring.

The second half saw the home team dominate proceedings with substitute Jamie Caviel making inroads and linking well with his flankers Jones and Williams.

Ynysowen’s superiority was beginning to rattle their opponents who were conceding penalties through ill discipline and, although Wathen missed two shots at goal, he converted one to take the score to 13-0.

Ynysowen were now playing with much more vigour and Clarke Thomas at fly half was dictating the play. Good passing saw second row Paul Jones score from 10 metres.

Further pressure resulted in Wathen striking another penalty to complete the scoring.

This Saturday sees Ynysowen take on another Cardiff-based team when they travel down to Llandaff Fields to play Clwb Rygbi Cymru Caerdydd.

l Next week, Ynysowen welcome Bedlinog in the Heart Of Wales Cup, kick-off 2.30pm at the Grove Field.
