Skiing: Schoolgirl’s slope to success

YOU don’t normally associate skiing success with Merthyr Tydfil – but the efforts of one Penydarren schoolgirl has put her on the slopes to glory.

Sam Maurice, aged 12, a pupil at Howell’s School in Cardiff, won gold in her age group at the Welsh Schools Ski Championship in Llangrannog, west Wales.

Sam, who has been skiing for the last few years, is a member of Torfaen Ski Club in Pontypool, and has qualified for the British Schools Championships in Manchester this November.
