Rugby: Cefn youth overpowered

Cefn Coed Youth 0 Deri Youth 22

WITH Cefn’s pack giving away a massive weight difference against the huge Deri forwards, winning ball at the set piece or in the contact area was always going to be difficult as Deri’s forwards piled on the pressure.

Cefn were put on the back foot for the first 30 minutes, but some excellent last-ditch defence kept Deri at bay.

The visitors notched up the first points of the half through a penalty for offside on the half-hour.

This was quickly followed by a try and conversion on the stroke of half-time.

Cefn were given a glimmer of hope of getting back into this game in the second half with some well-manufactured opportunities through Bradley Tarbuck, Alex Thomas, Gwlithyn Thomas and Thomas Daley, but Deri scrambled to recover and prevent a Cefn score.

Cefn’s stubborn resistance finally came to an end late in the second half when Deri ran in two more tries and added one conversion to make the full-time score 22-0.

Next up for Cefn Coed Youth is a difficult home league fixture against last year’s league runners-up Aberdare.
