DOWLAIS Ladies Hockey Club, who are celebrating their 30th anniversary, have opened the season with a bang.
In a pre-season friendly they routed Risca 6-1 with goals from Suzanne Jones (2), Kirsty Link, Sara Harries, Caryn Parker and Janine Thomas.
The opening two games of the league campaign have seen them continue in the same way.
At home to Gwernyfed, they were 1-0 down at half-time but in an amazing turnaround the girls put on a sizzling second-half performance.
Spurred on by man of the match Trudy Dinham, they took the game by the scruff of the neck and ran out 5-2 winners with goals from Suzanne Jones, Sara Harries, Caryn Parker, Janine Thomas and Lisa Pinney.
Away to Cwmtawe last Saturday, Dowlais put in a determined effort after the half-time break. A fine flowing move saw Jones slip the ball to Pinney to open the scoring.
Cwmtawe’s chances were few and far between and when they did threaten keeper Sarah Hanney, defenders Gail Morgan, Aimee Protheroe, Amy Thomas and Kerin Bowen kept them at bay.
Captain Janine Thomas secured the points with a goal following good work from Jane Antony-Thomas, Laura Ganesh, Trudy Dinham and man of the match Kirsty Link.
Dowlais Ladies would like to thank Dowlais RFC, Callasway, Lucille and Marcus and Linda and Clive Treharne for their involvement in last Saturday’s anniversary celebrations at the club.
Dowlais train from 7-8pm on Tuesday at Rhydycar and Thursday at Cae Mari Dwn School.
