Football: Pen through to next round

Penydarren BC 2 Cadoxton 0

PEN eventually ran out winners to go into the second round of the SWFA Senior Cup.

In the first half they dominated possession but were lacking in the final third when, too often, the final pass went astray.

Lee Tregonning and Scott Lanyon were guilty of wasting the best chances of the half.

The second half was much the same with Pen in possession for long periods. On 65 minutes Tregonning opened the scoring, with Kerry Mullins scoring the decisive second with a screamer from 25 yards not long after.

Pen remain unbeaten this season with last year’s league winners Sully Sports up next, kick-off 2pm. With the Merthyr League side also back in action, all players should meet at the Bont at 12.30pm.

Many thanks from the club to Lee Tregonning for sponsoring last week’s match ball, and also Michael Cope for his hard-earned sponsorship money.

In the South Wales Amateur League, Pantyscallog lost 2-1 at Carnetown.

Pant opened the scoring on 11 minutes with an excellently worked goal between Ross Martin and Matthew Davies.

In the second half Anthony Thomas was sent off for handling the ball on the line.

Keeper Christian Power made an excellent save from the penalty, but the taker put the ball in at the second attempt.

Man-of-the-match Power kept Pant in the game until the last minute when Carne scored from a free kick. On Friday, October 26 (7pm) a Gentlemen’s Evening with Alan Kennedy, the Liverpool legend, is being held at the Martyrs Club with a comedian and three-course meal. Tables are available at £250, single tickets are also available. Call 07983 475805 for details.
