Penydarren & Merthyr Valley Ladies 8 Caldicot Town 2
CALDICOT arrived at the Bont in fine form after drawing with league leaders Swansea in their last game.
And they promptly stung the home team with a goal inside three minutes.
They continued to threaten for much of the early part of the game, but several fine saves from Sarah Hanney in the Valley goal stopped them increasing their advantage and allowed the home side to equalise.
The Valley ladies scored four more before half time to seize control of the match.
In the second half the home team pressed continuously, hitting the post and bar and missing two open goals.
But they did add three more with one in reply for the visitors.
Strikers Lynsey Mochen and Hollie Williams grabbed their second hat-tricks of the season, taking their combined scoring to 23 goals in six games.
Ceri James and Sian Scannell scored the others.
The Valley girls are now joint second in the league with Caerphilly, who they play at the Bont on Sunday, October 14.
Earlier in the day, the Under-16 girls played a strong Crickhowell side, in round one of the League Cup.
The home team got off to flier when Lizzie Mitchell scored with a fine header on her debut, followed by the first of two goals from Alex Thomas.
In a tough game, the visitors dug in and had pulled level by half-time. In a tense second half, the deadlock was broken on the hour when skipper Sian scored to give the Valley girls the lead, and when Thomas hammered home her second it looked all over.
But the visitors did not give up and scored in injury time to make it 4-3 and give the home supporters a nerve-racking last few minutes.
The girls now play Newport away in the next round. Anyone wishing to join the club can ring 01685 382866.
