Good work from Ironmen

RUGBY

Merthyr 29 Llanharan 29

BOTH teams produced a feast of rugby in this pulsating friendly.

The visitors opened the scoring with a converted try but Merthyr soon hit back, Ryan Harries darting around a scrum to race over, and when the try was converted the scores were level.

Both sides were trying hard to keep the game open and it was Greg Plant who scored for Merthyr next when he showed his pace to race over. The try was converted.

Llanharan were still very much in the game and with some style they got the next two tries, although Nathan Trevett got one in reply for Merthyr.

For Merthyr, John Difford was impressive in the front row and Darren Lynch dominated the line-out.

Gareth Davies benefited from a start at flanker and captain Ross Coombs played with some style, as did Lloyd Wood at hooker.

In the backs, Matthew Edwards and Greg Plant showed plenty of ambition, and at full-back Ben Grzesica was composed in defence.

Merthyr are at home to Pontypool in another friendly on Saturday, in what should be another close encounter.
