Football: Cynon are held to a 2-2 draw

Osborne Athletic 2
AFC Abercynon 2

THE Ceiber side entertained Abercynon in this Aberdare Valley premiership clash at Pentwyn Fields.

The opening exchanges failed to separate the sides though they both created a couple of decent half chances inside the first 20 minutes.

But it was the visitors who opened the scoring soon after when James Davies’s defence-splitting pass found Alex Rees, who netted his sixth in five games.

On the half hour mark the home side suffered a further loss when influential striker Barry Cooper was forced out of the action with what appeared to be a dislocated shoulder.

Following the break both sides came out at full tilt, but it was Osborne who settled into their rhythm quicker.

On the hour mark the home side restored parity when Cynon failed to clear their lines after a set piece.

And from there on in it was anyone’s game with both sides looking to bring the ball down and use the width of the excellent Pentwyn surface.

With 20 minutes remaining, Cynon looked to have secured all three league points when Tucker fired home from close range after being well set-up by wide man Graham Randell.

But 10 minutes later the home side once again drew level when Martin Griffith’s towering header crashed into the Cynon net.

During the latter stages neither side were able to fashion a winning goal and at the end of 90 minutes, the honours remained even.
