Rugby: Tredegar too classy

Tredegar 50 Llanishen 5

LANGUISHING at the foot of Division Two, Llanishen made their first ever visit to Tredegar cock-a-hoop after their midweek victory against the league leaders Ystrad Rhondda.

Tredegar were determined to help the Cardiff side return to the third division by scoring another eight tries, piling misery on an unhappy season for a team ill equipped at this level.

With the Tredegar squad depleted due to the absence of several players who were attending a wedding, Tredegar scored six tries in the first half with Greg Jones firing over five conversions to add 10 points to his seasons’ personal tally.

Llanishen were unable to contain the pace of the Tredegar three quarters with Rob Smith and Jamie Henthorne scoring a brace apiece.

Jack Dawson and Steve Knight each crossed, demonstrating the authority of the Tredegar eight, and all Llanishen could do was gain a solitary five points from the efforts of Owen Jenkins.

Tredegar's superiority was curtailed in the second half with passive scrums becoming the order of the day and the WRU must implement a penalty system to clubs unable to produce a full complement for a whole game.

James Atwill added another try to his successful first season with Tredegar, while Stuart Jarman barged over bagging another try with the number eight having one of his best season's this year.

On Tuesday night Tredegar visit Llanishen for the return fixture and complete their league programme away to Rhydyfelin on Saturday.
