FOUR young golfers from Dewstow have won a trip to the Celtic Manor after winning through their qualifying events for the Junior Wales Open.
Joseph Du Feu and Chris Aston both came out on top in the South Wales regional competition at St Pierre, while Ross Hoare and Otto Mand emerged successfully from the Mid Wales qualifier at Builth Wells. All four now travel to the Celtic Manor for the grand final on August 20.
At St Pierre, Joseph won the youngest age group – the U13 boys’ stableford – with a superb return of 45 points while Chris triumphed in the U18 boys’ nett category with a brilliant 64 off his handicap of 12.
Over at Builth Wells, Ross won the U15 boys’ nett section with a sparkling 61 off his handicap of 14, while Otto progressed as runner-up in the U13 boys’ stableford with 37 points.
Other qualifiers from St Pierre were Michael O’Connell (Youghal), Myriam Hassan (Southerndown), Ryan Haskell (Celtic Manor), Joseph Francis (Llantrisant), Victoria Davies (Whitchurch), Danielle Cobley (Newport) and Matthew Tweddell (Blackwell).
They join a total of 43 qualifiers in three different age groups – U13, U15 and U18 – who all won through from more than 300 competitors at four qualifying events.
At the Celtic Manor, which will stage the Ryder Cup arrives in 2010, they will enjoy an overnight stay in the five-star hotel and bid for prizes which include custom-fitting for the latest cutting-edge golf club at Callaway’s Golf Performance Centre in Surrey.
