Boxing: Lockett’s taste of Big Apple

GARY Lockett heads for New York next week to meet the American media – and Kelly Pavlik, the WBC/WBO middleweight champion he challenges in Atlantic City on June 7.

The Cwmbran product has come in for some stick from scribes over the water and will relish the chance to introduce himself to men who are viewing his selection as a means of giving Pavlik an easy outing after his two tough battles with Jermain Taylor.

With trainer Enzo Calzaghe staying at home to keep an eye on son Joe’s preparation for his own US venture against Bernard Hopkins, Lockett will be accompanied by Sports Network matchmaker Dean Powell.
