Boxing: Heavier weight aids Mo’s cause

A STEP up in weight seems to have revived the fading Olympic hopes of Welsh youngster Mo Nasir.

The 21-year-old Newport boxer, who struck bronze at light-flyweight at the 2006 Commonwealth Games, has struggled in that division recently. But a move to flyweight resulted in a gold at last weekend’s multi-nations event in Sheffield, thanks to victory over a lanky Swede.

Wales’ other representative, Garnant bantam Chris Jenkins, was stopped in the final by English southpaw Luke Campbell. Jenkins now competes in Bulgaria next week.
