FOUR Welsh greats and an unsung hero were honoured at last night’s Welsh Athletics Centenary Dinner and launch of the Hall of Fame.
Lynn The Leap Davies, Colin Jackson, Tanni Grey-Thompson and Steve Jones were all obvious first inductees into the Hall of Fame but while 97-year-old Ken Harris may not be a household name, his contribution as a race starter is well-respected.
As Jones, who flew in from his home in the USA especially for the occasion, joked: “If you didn’t get your toes behind the start line, Ken shot you with his gun.”
Davies pointed out the huge contribution to British athletics that Welsh athletes make.
“We punch well above our weight in this country,” he said.
