Vale pipped at the post

Ebbw Vale 13-13 Glamorgan Wanderers

ON a day made for forwards, it was fitting that Wanderers’ prop Nathan Trevett should burrow his way over for the only try of the first-half at wet and muddy Eugene Cross Park.

With James Thomas converting and adding a penalty, Wanderers were in a 10-6 lead at the cross-over.

This was the situation until halfway through the second half, when Rob Lewis found a way through the defence to notch an Ebbw try converted by Bryan Shelbourne, scorer of two earlier penalties.

At 13-10, Vale appeared to have done enough to gain the win that would keep them on track for second spot in the league’s final placings behind Neath.

But Wanderers had other ideas and Rhys Jones took over the kicking duties from Thomas to land a penalty.

Considering the conditions, both sides did well to provide an entertaining encounter.

Ebbw Vale: Try – R Lewis; con – B Shelbourne; pens – B Shelbourne (2).

Glam Wanderers: Try – N Trevett; con – J Thomas; pens – J Thomas, R Jones.
