Wanderers show their class to make last eight in canter

Bargoed 6-25 Glam Wands

BARGOED chairman Neil Carter praised his valiant battlers, but acknowledged the gap in class as Wanderers ran out comfortable winners.

“We had our share of possession,” said Carter. “But, at this level, it’s all about snapping up half-chances. We made two basic errors in the first half which gifted them 14 points and there was no way back for us.”

Lying second in Division One East, Bargoed took the game to the Premiership side at regular intervals, but the visiting defence never looked like being breached.

After eight minutes a stray pass was grabbed by Gareth Morris for the opening Wanderers try.

Anther error by Bargoed saw Huw Williams win a kick-and-chase for the line which gave the visitors a 17-6 interval advantage.

Bargoed’s best chance of a try came early in the second half, but the move broke down with the line at their mercy.

Nathan Trevett’s catch and drive on 65 minutes led to the third away try putting the result realistically beyond doubt.

Wanderers coach Richard Hodges praised his defence as the springboard for the win.

“Our defence has been in superb form lately.”
