Superb fightback by Wanderers

GLAMORGAN WANDERERS 36 BRIDGEND 20

Wanderers’ fourth try in injury time by Mike Grimes completed a great second-half comeback as they deservedly beat Bridgend at the Memorial Ground.

After Gareth David had put the Ravens ahead with an early penalty goal, it was the Wanderers who got the first try thanks to a fine individual burst by Lloyd Williams.

Bridgend claimed the best try of the half when Geoff Hobbs ran 50 metres out of defence and lock Kyle Maiden plucked the high pass out of the air for the touchdown.

Two minutes later, the Wanderers were again caught napping by a quick throw-in and Chris Weightman finished off the move. David converted and added a penalty goal for a 20-10 interval lead for the Ravens.

But Wanderers were a changed side on the restart with two tries in three minutes from Grimes and Alex Luff, plus five points from the boot of James Thomas. A penalty goal by Rhys Jones and Grimes’ final try finished the match.

Wanderers: Tries – M Grimes (2), L Williams, A Luff; cons – J Thomas (2); pens – J Thomas (2), R Jones (2)

Bridgend: Tries – K Maiden, C Weightman; cons – G David (2); pens – G David (2)
