Llandovery 10-3 Bridgend
THE Drovers gained another vital win in their fight for Premiership survival by deservedly beating Bridgend at a very windy Church Bank.
The victory was down to the magnificent work of the Llandovery pack, who monopolised possession in the second half to deny Bridgend any attacking opportunities.
Few could have believed in a home win at the interval as Bridgend – playing into the teeth of the wind – had kept the score down to 10-3 thanks to the driving play of their pack.
The Ravens limited Llandovery to a try from No 8 Gareth Bennett and five points from the boot of fly-half Gareth Morgan.
Full-back and skipper Gareth David got the Bridgend points and no one – neither home nor away supporter – gave the Drovers a chance to survive the expected second-half storm. But urged on by their combative skipper and scrum-half Rob Walters the home pack used pick-and-go tactics continually drove upfield.
No 8 Gareth Bennett and hooker Emyr Phillips were towers of strength in keeping the pressure on Bridgend, whilst on-loan Scarlets wing Darren Daniel did some superb covering work in defence to ensure an extraordinary victory.
