ASDA Leagues East round-up

TWO tries by Rumney flanker Matthew Way make sure the champagne was kept on ice at Llantrisant in Division Two.

Way crossed twice and Danny Clarke added a third as second-placed Rumney won 24-10 at Tredegar to cling on to the coat-tails of run-away leaders Llantrisant.

They remain 12 points clear following their 42-5 hammering of Pill Harriers, though have yet to wrap up the title and have two games less to play.

Meanwhile, Croesyceiliog threw the relegation scrap wide open with a surprise win over Treherbert that saw them leap off the foot of the table and out of the relegation zone.

Gavin Howells scored twice as Croesyceiliog won 41-32 and leap-frogged both Pill Harriers and Abergavenny.

Penalllta dashed Pontypool United's slim promotion hopes from Division Two with a 21-3 victory following tries from Lee Thomas, Sean Powell and Rhys Cleverly.

Newport HSOB maintained their bid with a 35--15 win at New Tredegar.

Pencoed remain top of Division Three South East following their 19-10 success at Hirwaun, but their six-point lead is under threat from Llanishen, who have three games in hand.

Pentyrch claimed the vital points at Fairwater, 13-13, that has saved them from the drop.

Old Illtydians drew level at the top of Division Four with Garndiffaith after Cai Lewis set them on their way to a 33-21 win over Llandaff North.
