Table toppers all win at home

THE battle at the top of Division Three (West) intensified as leading trio Aberystwyth, Llangefni and Tumble all won at home with Aberystwyth easily accounting for Laugharne, who could only muster two penalties from Simon Davies in a 38-6 defeat.

Centre Paul Stubbs caught the eye for Aber as he claimed two tries alongside others from wingers Steve Brown and Tom Harries, outside-half Dorian Lloyd and second row Arwel Lloyd, with full-back Gwilym Evans landing four conversions.

Llanelli Wanderers lost 36-3 at Llangefni, Daniel Rogers kicking the lone penalty for the Wanderers.

The North Walians had tries by Ioan Davies (2) Arwel Roberts and Dilyn Richards while outside-half Matthew Parry slotted four penalties and two conversions.

Tumble beat Trimsaran 30-10, with wingers Paul Griffiths and Thomas Bonnell claiming the Trim tries, but Craig Williams, Cerith Humphreys, Gareth and Kenny Jones all scored for Tumble and Steve Hewitt kicked two conversions and two penalties.

The top clash in Division Two (West) between Tonmawr and Carmarthen Athletic was called off because some of the Athletic players had been involved in a car crash en route, and they were naturally shaken up, so Tonmawr sportingly agreed to postpone the fixture.

Section leaders Corus lost 20-16 at Cwmafon, while Maesteg Quins beat Penclawdd 10-9 thanks to a try from Rhodri Milsom to accompany a conversion and penalty by Gareth Lewis as Robbie Richards kicked three penalties for the Cocklemen. Felinfoel beat Gorseinon 23-13 thanks to a try by Craig Richards and five penalties and a dropped goal from Jason Davies, with Gorseinon's points coming from a try by Matthew Stoneham alongside a conversion and two penalties by Darren Wilcox.

In Division Four (West) New Dock Stars won - after 16 successive defeats - beating Pembroke 23-7 despite conceding an early try to Stuart Tyrie, converted by Scott Bowen. But the Stars shone with tries from Rhodri Owen and Gregory Allen (2) as Clark James chipped in with a conversion, dropped goal and penalty.

Aberaeron moved into second after beatingTycroes 14-13 with seven tries by Rhodri Thomas (2), Eilir Evans, Neil Snowden, Dylan Williams, Euryl Rees and Tudur Jenkins, with a conversion from Rees and a penalty by Dylan Evans.
