Pike's perfect 10 edges it for Tylorstown

THE weather took its toll on the programme in the lower divisions of the Asda Welsh National League but there was still some intriguing action which could well have a bearing on promotion and relegation issues at the end of the season.

At Pencoed, Tylorstown eased their relegation fears by edging to a 15-14 success. Fly-half Julian Pike was the match-winner, notching 10 of his side's points while Matthew Harrison ran in a valuable try.

Full-back Gareth Taylor scored all Pencoed's points, crossing for a try and landing three penalties.

In division three south west, Tonna jumped to the top of the table by disposing of Aberavon Quins 20-12. Captain Gavin Langford grabbed a brace of tries and Mark Powell added two penalties and a conversion.

Tondu crushed Ystalyfera 46-10, while Resolven chalked up only their third win of the season as they edged out Bryncoch 18-16.

In four south east, Penarth kept their promotion hopes alive by returning to winning ways by thrashing local rivals Llandaff 32-5.

Third-placed Cilfynydd lost some ground as they were beaten 25-12 at home by Taffs Well.

Division four south west table toppers Heol y Cyw encountered little resistance as they saw off Taibach 32-15.

Second-placed Birchgrove pipped Aberavon Green Stars 13-12 thanks to a late try by Jamie Rees, converted by Anthony Evans.

In five south east, Porth romped to their l5th victory on the bounce as they demolished Ogmore Vale 89-0. Steve Walker scored a double hat-trick of tries while Ryan Robinson and Dafydd Morris scored two apiece. Bridgend Sport ran up 79 points without reply against Old Penarthians.
