WARREN Gatland will name his first Wales squad tomorrow on a high after watching his sides chase European glory with back-to- back wins over English opposition.
The new Wales coach watched the Ospreys thrash Guinness Premiership leaders Gloucester 32-15 to move within a win of the Heineken Cup quarter-finals. In a match where many players shone, Gavin Henson staked a claim for his place in the squad.
And that came less than 24 hours after the Blues had done the same with victory over Harlequins.
Ospreys coach Lyn Jones, whose job was on the line last night if his side failed to record a victory, admitted it was one of the best ever performances by the Ospreys.
“That was as satisfying as any victory we have had,” said Jones.
“We got our just rewards against the leaders of the Guinness Premiership. We dominated them right throughout the game.
“We dominated them physically, at the breakdown, set-piece and kicking strategy – we were far better than Gloucester all over the park.
“They can have no complaints about what happened to them.
“We have played ourselves into a position where we need to go to France and win a game of rugby. If you are going to do well in Europe, somewhere along the line you have to win a game in France.”
