GETHIN Jenkins declared the Grand Slam triumph was built on Shaun Edwards’ awesome defensive foundations.
Wales only conceded two tries in the five Six Nations victories and Jenkins admitted the French could not break down the hosts’ impenetrable defence.
“France could have been out there a lot longer and still not have scored,” said the Cardiff Blues prop.
“Our defence was great throughout the championship and to only concede two tries was amazing.
“We have come a long way in seven weeks and that was the end result out there against France.
“I was shattered after the game but we can celebrate now.
“Everyone is on top of the world and really chuffed we have won the Grand Slam again.
“It feels the same as 2005 but we have played a different style of game.
“This success has been based on hard work. We have been challenged in a tough environment and everyone has pulled together.
“There was a massive team spirit and we have managed to grind out results.”
Jenkins, who equalled his namesake Garin’s record of appearances for a Welsh front-row forward in his 58th Test match, also praised his rival Duncan Jones who notched up his 50th cap off the replacements bench.
“I have to congratulate Duncan for getting his 50th cap,” added Jenkins.
“I have had to work hard to get my place back and I have had for the last three games. It is great to be out there starting again.”
