YOUNG Ospreys won the 59th Old Penarthians Sevens at Penarth at their first attempt last night.
They beat Cardiff High School Old Boys, seven times former winners, 38-26 in the final of what claims to be Wales’ oldest surviving Sevens.
Wing Liam Powell and forward Tom Lampard each scored two of Young Ospreys’ six tries.
Cardiff HSOB were 24-7 down at half-time.
Highlight was the semi-final in which Young Ospreys beat WOTs – ‘Way Over Thirties!’ – 19-14 after extra time. WOTs included former Welsh internationals Allan Bateman, aged 43, and Glenn Webbe, 45, as well as Kevin Ellis, who is 43 on May 29. “It took a professional outfit to beat us,” Webbe said.
