Rhys sets sail for the Pirates

OUTSIDE-HALF Rhys Jones – who has been on loan with the Blues this season – is joining the Cornish Pirates.

The 20-year-old was drafted in from Sale in December in response to a fly-half injury crisis at the Arms Park.

He made one start for the region – in the Magners League victory over Munster in March.

Now the former Wales Under-20 international is heading to Cornwall in search of more regular rugby with the English National League One outfit.

His father, Sale coach Kingsley Jones, believes it will be a good move for him.

“Rhys has played in the Guinness Premiership for Sale and in the Magners League for the Blues,” said the ex-Wales flanker.

“He needs regular rugby, so he has gone for the Pirates in order to further his career.

“We are sure playing regularly will help Rhys’ development.

“It could be just what he needs. He is still a young man.”
