Numbers add up as Warriors get stats man Carter

MIKE Ruddock’s Worcester Warriors have got Carter...but not Dan of All Blacks fame.

Instead the Warriors have landed the former Wales international and top stats man Alun.

The former Pontypool and Newport back-row forward, who was head of match analysis for the Wales team for nine years, from August 1998 to July 2007, and for the British Lions in Australia in 2001, will become new team manager at Sixways Stadium next season.

Carter worked alongside Graham Henry, Steve Hansen, Ruddock, Scott Johnson and Gareth Jenkins during their spells in charge of Wales and went to two Rugby World Cups.

As a player, he captained the first Grand Slam winning Wales Schools side in 1983.

Carter was capped twice at senior level against England and Scotland in the 1991 Five Nations.

Carter succeeds the retiring Tony Boddy at European Challenge Cup finalists Worcester.

Warriors boss Ruddock declared: “Alun joins us with a huge amount of experience.

“He has worked as a senior analyst for a number of years and under several Wales coaches.

“Alun has been in a number of situations where he has had to manage teams of support staff and has also demonstrated a very conscientious and methodical style.”
