Gavin Henson faces tour D-Day

GAVIN HENSON will have surgery on Wednesday to determine whether he is fit or not for Wales' tour to South Africa.

Henson was left out of a 24-man Wales training squad who gather next week to prepare for the two-Test showdown with the world champions.

But Wales coach Warren Gatland has not yet given up on Henson being available for the tour.

The Ospreys refused to give a definitive answer about Henson's availability when told about Gatland's remarks.

An Ospreys spokesman said: "Whatever decision is made, it will be in the best interests of Gavin Henson."

Coach Lyn Jones said: "It's so disappointing for Gavin. He came back from the disappointment of the World Cup and really hit top form for the Ospreys and Wales. He was really enjoying his rugby and is devastated his season has come to an end,"
