Stadium to host Shane Williams testimonial

Shane Williams

THE MILLENNIUM Stadium is to stage a testimonial match for Wales Grand Slam hero Shane Williams on May 17.

Wing wizard Williams is set to feature in an all-star team up coached by Wales boss Warren Gatland against a world side skippered by his Ospreys team-mate Justin Marshall.

The WRU have given Williams the money-spinning game - which will provide preparation before Wales' summer tour of  South Africa - after his fantastic service to Welsh rugby down the years.

The game will kick-off at 1.15pm and will act as a curtain-raiser to the Konica Minolta Cup final to be played later that day.

Williams became Wales' record try scorer during the 2008 Grand Slam triumph, eclipsing Gareth Thomas at the top of the charts when he scored against France..

He has scored 41 tries from 56 caps and was named Player of the Six Nations.

WIlliams' exploits have led to leading pundits dubbing him one of the genuine greats of world rugby. One or two have even stated he has eclipsed Gerald Davies as Wales' greatest wing in history.
