Injury-hit Rumney in another blow

IN a rearranged Division One fixture, injury-hit Rumney fell to a third successive loss, 18-7 at home to Newbridge.

The Gwent outfit had a good midfield trio in Gavin Ashman, Jonathan Hawker and Sean Thomas with Thomas kicking a penalty and conversion and fly-half Ashman a penalty.

Tries came from wing Tom Watkins and scrum-half Richard Griffiths. The lone home try was, in fact, a penalty try – their fourth this season – and Lloyd White duly converted it.

Caerphilly pulled off a magnificent 39-8 win at Llantrisant – their highest score of the season.

The Cheesemen hope to play Llantwit Fardre at Virginia Park tonight in a Worthington Mid District Cup tie.

Taffs Well defeated Barry 24-15 in a rearranged league game, their fifth win in a row, but the losers put in a brave performance.

Barry held the lead 8-5 at half time despite a Kevin Dodd try for the home team.

After the break, Taffs Well dominated with James Barry and Lee Jones scoring tries and Jones added a conversion and penalty.

Nelson gained a win at New Tredegar as full-back Ryan Jones and replacement scrum-half Steve Parry notched the tries and fly-half Liam Matthews landed five goal shots in a 24-15 success.
