Our boys are Grand Slam lucky charms!

ROMA Wheadon and her family are Grand Slam mad.

So is everyone else at the moment, you might say, but the Fairwater mum has a special reason – because whenever she gives birth Wales scoop the Grand Slam. The 29-year-old, from Fairwater and her two sons, Danny-Boy, two and a half, and Gethin, nine weeks, were both born in Grand Slam years.

Roma, a customer assistant at Marks and Spencer, thinks it may have something to do with the fact she was born in 1978 – when Gareth Edwards’ Wales career ended with a Grand Slam-winning defeat against France.

Danny-Boy was born in July, 2005, the year when the Welsh team were heroes once again.

And little Gethin, who came into the world in January, will doubtlessly be told of the year he was born – when the whole country went crazy as Wales achieved another well-deserved trophy.

Roma, married to Andrew, said: “I reckon we must be lucky charms to the Welsh team. If the players want to pay me to have more children, I’ll be quite willing to do it.”

Andrew, 40, a quality manager, said: “The boys will definitely be top rugby players when they’re older. They’ve already got a dozen rugby balls each.”

The family watched the match at their home in Pinehurst Road. A huge party followed, complete with Champagne.

Roma and Andrew are so fanatical about rugby, they have built an extension with their own bar, which houses all their rugby memorabilia.

Roma said: “It’s really strange how me and the boys were born in Grand Slam years. We all absolutely love rugby. I wanted them to win so badly on Saturday.”

Andrew added: “It was a brilliant win. We’re not planning on having more children but if it can guarantee me a ticket for every game I might reconsider.”
